Next beginners course for girls and women starts Tues 8 March

Every Tuesday evening 7.30-8.30pm for 8 weeks. Starts 8 March, 2016.

Who is it for?
Any female over the age of 11 who wants to get fit, learn the skills and benefit physically from boxing as a form of exercise.

If you want to get into the ring and compete - this is where to start. The course is accredited by the Amateur Boxing Association - Boxing Awards scheme and is the pathway to competition.

We teach glove to glove contact (so no hitting an opponent or getting hit) and punch focus pads and bags. We work in pairs and each week, add a new technique as well as practising what we've already learned.

This is suitable for people who just want to learn how to move around and punch properly so they can take what they've learned into a Bootcamp or other boxing fitness session.

We run these Box 4 Fitness courses at Hebden Bridge Boxing Club, Mt Pleasant Mill, Ribstone St, Mytholmroyd (HX7 5LR) Behind Firth Glass, opposite the park on Midgeley Rd (access via rd leading to Zion Terrace)

The benefits of this type of training  are both physical and mental. Boxers are some of the fittest athletes in the world but you don't have to be fit to start this programme. It's hard to beat as a stress reliever and is particularly good for building confidence and all over body strength.

How much?
The cost of the course is £60 with a £30 online deposit. This covers 8 weeks of training and a medal and certificate after assessment.

Friday Boxercise is back this week!

We're back in business on a Friday morning at 9.30am as from this week! I still have another 2 weeks of outreach work to do but I'll be back with you in the gym on Friday 12 Feb.

In the meantime, 2 guest instructors, Amanda and Rhea will be running the show for your training pleasure!

This is a great class for beginners and seasoned punchers too.

No Friday Boxercise this week or next (15 & 22 Jan)

Apologies to my regulars and anyone new who's thinking of coming to this session. I have some important work to do with a school over the next 2 Fridays and have been unable to get cover for the class.

Wednesday Boxercise
We're still training on Wednesday mornings at 10.15am as usual. The Saturday morning KO Circuit at 10am may also be an option for you in the meantime?

Beginners course for women and girls starts next Tues

Our first beginner's boxing course of 2016 starts next Tuesday at 7.30pm and runs for 8 weeks.

What will you learn?

This course covers the basics of boxing and fitness training.
  • How to stand, hold your guard and move your torso
  • Throwing straight punches to the head and body
  • How to defend against straight punches to the head and body
  • Moving around the ring

Each session begins with preparation for training; warming up, skipping, bodyweight exercise and drills.

You'll learn a new technique each week and drill it the following week so that at the end of the course, movement and punching is becoming more natural.

What's it good for?
  •     Improving confidence and self esteem
  •     Increasing fitness and supporting weight loss
  •     Stress busting
  •     Enhancing body awareness and muscle function
  •     Improving co-ordination
Who's it for?
Absolute beginners who have an interest in either competing in Amateur Boxing or those who want to benefit from the training, for fitness only. There's always a mixed group of varied abilities and ages (11+), providing an all female, supportive environment.

We are back in this week - come train with us!

Despite the floods, we're back at it tonight from 6.15pm with Bootcamp for those of you that can make it. We're going to ease you back in slowly and then let you loose on the bags for a good old tear up!

It's going to be difficult for at least a few weeks getting to the gym in the evenings with the amount of traffic on the roads so please be patient, try and organise car shares if you can or consider the train? We're not far from Mytholmroyd Station - less than a ten min brisk walk.

Tomorrow, our first Circuits class kicks off with a new year special to beast away the mince pies and get you feeling alive again. Don't worry if you are late, we have time to run over this week as there's no 7.30pm session


Wednesday morning's Boxercise class at 10.15am - unsure how many people will make this so please text 077 3243 3243 or post on the Box 4 Fitness facebook page if you want to come and I will make sure the class takes place.

Kickboxercise for girls - Rhea's first and last class of the year before she heads off on her adventure! I will be taking over from next week. Starts at 4.30pm, new girls welcome.

Women's Boxing Training
We are covering all the training aspects of Level 3 during the first 8 weeks but this is open to anyone who has done level 1, Boxing Award. A coach style class with circuit style warm ups, footwork drills, body sparring, defence work and glove to glove contact. Starts 6.15pm

Boxercise at 9.30am. This is the first and last class at this time for a few weeks. I will confirm by Friday what time the class will continue to run at, but it looks like 12-1pm as of next week.

Happy New Year!

My first blogpost of the year should have been on January 1st. It should have been a happy one, full of inspiring words and motivation to get you off the sofa and back into the gym. However, we flooded here in the Calder Valley on Boxing Day and although we're very grateful to have escaped the flood at our premises, our friends, neighbours and surrounding businesses were not so lucky.

We've been out and about for the past 8 days, shoveling and sweeping and filling sandbags, ferrying people about and just generally helping out where we can.

This means we're at least a week behind on lots of other stuff so if you've emailed or called or texted, please bear with us as we get back up to speed.

Bootcamp as usual tomorrow
Classes will go ahead as planned as from tomorrow with Bootcamp at 6.15pm. I know the roads will be chaotic with so many people going back to work so please don't worry about turning up late over the next few weeks as this gets sorted.

It will be strange to move from 'emergency mode' to 'business as usual' but I'm aware a lot of you need to get back in there and get rid of some aggression, not to mention the mince pies and selection boxes!

Although this whole experience has been heartbreaking, there have been so many positives, the strength and togetherness of our community has been overwhelming. The help and support we've received from others, in particular, the Muslim and Sikh communities has been both humbling and revitalising. Collectively what we've done in the past week or so has been nothing short of amazing.

When you are ready for it, we'll be in the gym, waiting to support you in whichever way we can. Here's to new beginnings and a happy 2016!
